ODFW has started a new program to gather ocean salmon fishing data from recreational anglers. We now have a waterproof form that boat anglers can record fish caught, released and fish fought that threw the hook. The ODFW form is a daily trip report. A proposal was accepted at the meeting that this form will serve as the basis for the OCA tournament. There will be three winners, first place $100, second place $50 and third place $25. The forms are to be completed as you fish and signed by a witness (not the boat captain). The tournament will start on March 14th and end at the end of the salmon ocean season, which has not been announced at this time. The forms are to be turned into Steve (do not turn them into the Fish Checker) for tallying and summarizing. At the end of the tournament the forms will be released to ODFW. Steve will ask ODFW for the coast-wide average in all categories for comparison to the OCA member performance. This is a great opportunity for some friendly competition and help ODFW collect better data at the same time. There was a lot of interest in participation for members present at the March meeting and forms are available. Any OCA club member interested should contact Steve for forms.
